Turns out if you don't purchase tunes for year, they drop your account. In my case, I was very ill, so had to use a new email to purchase songs because my original email would no longer work. I have invoices proving I legally purchased tunes and iTunes now ignores my emails. The Apple person (had a great conversation with him) says iTunes is in their own world ... and the Apple people have no way of contacting them if they ignore the Apple people too.

So, this means that iTunes licenses your music forever, but drop your account after a year ... leaving you high and dry. I wonder if this is even legal.

This is the worst I've been treated by any software company in my 25 years of using computers. iTunes is a mess.

Yes I know it is because of the new iPod, but not everyone can afford to run and buy newer hardware and software every time a company decides to make the product better (or is it just a case of being greedy like someone else in Microsoft). For example if my friend once gave me a mix CD and i labeled all the tracks when i uploaded it to itunes, the consolidation has turned it back to track #, unknown artist, and unknown album. it did this to all my mixes. So my itunes library folder has the usual artist folders with the album folders inside containing the songs but it also has a "unknown artist" folder in which i have hundreds of Tracks. Is there a way to fix this with out making the artist-album folders myself? Shouldn't it have worked? because in itunes the artist, album, and name are filled out. its frustrating. any help?

OK, I have a iMac with a 150 gig LaCie external drive where my iPod music resides.

I made sure sure all music was on that drive before I did a clean install of OS X (Leopard). I performed and completed the install on my iMac, have hooked the La Cie back up. It *seems* obvious that all I should need to do now is to open my iTunes and reference the La Cie folder where all my music is now located.

But.... I know the world isn't that simple. Plus there's the issue if my iPod which has all of the songs on it.

If I try to refresh my iPod what can I expect? Are there any hidden boulders under the waters that I need to look out for? What exactly am I doing when I "De-authorize Audible Account?"

What is happening when I "Consolidate [my] Library?"

Any helpful hints much appreciated.

BTW, 95% of the music comes from burning my entire CD collection to the computer. The other 5% has been purchased from iTunes. 0% has been downloaded illegally? Does the source of the music matter when trying to re-connect after an OS upgrade?

Finally getting comfortable with my iPod. We've bonded. :-) Making playlists now, and by accidentally hitting the wrong button I happened to publish my playlist on the iTunes website. Great fun. They comb your list and dispose of anything they don't carry, but on the other hand they let you make notes and comments about your mix. Great fun to see your work published, and wonderful satisfaction when someone else votes your mix an 'excellent'. On the downside, fifty bajillion other people are doing this, so the odds that anyone will even FIND your list are slim. Still its a fun time waster and a nice feature. Now, back to my countdown of top Theremin songs....

my computer is running really slow, probably at least in part due to the large library of tunes

so, since all songs are saved on the ipod, is there a way to back up itunes on the computer and then delete it or somehow free up space? having it on ipod is that good enough? i really don't want to burn everything to cd, i may as well just have cds instead of an ipod.

if i do delete the music files on itunes, won't they automatically load back when i plug the ipod in again?

or is there some kind of external device that is sold to back up my ipod?

I also bought one called Industrial Monk - Magnificat. I listened to all the 30 second clips of all the songs on both cd's before buying them and they sound pretty good. At the moment I am on the 4th song of the Enigma one and like it all so far. I can't wait to hear the whole Industrial Monk after I listen to this. Anyway. Just sharing my excitement. I have loved Enigma for many years and it's nice they have a new cd out that is just as good if not better than everything else theyve ever put out.
Cheers!

Alias is the show that the people who made LOST made before making LOST. Anyway. I like the show alot and this soundtrack is really good. I am wondering if anyone can tell me what is the best edition and / or latest edition of the book "iPod & iTunes for Dummies"? I want to get it to learn more but not sure which one to get. There are 4 editions that I have seen on Amazon. It's hard to tell which ones are just the skinny booklet and which one is the full size large paperback. My roommate gave me an iPod about a month ago and I have been burning all my cd's and have about 3,500 songs so far and this is only about 5 or 10 percent of my cd collection. I am throwing away all the jewel cases & storing all the cd's in plastic boxes under my bed. I love my iPod and it has become my most cherished material posession. : ) I bought a Seagate 750GB external hard drive so I guestimate that should hold about 375,000 songs? Give or take a few thousand? lol This is so much fun!

Once you have a playlist set up click on the list and then go under file menu - choose Print. It gives you an option to Print CD Jewl Case Insert and if you check the different drop down menus - say Mosaic - it will print a collage of the available album artwork for the cover as well as compling a list of the songs.
