iTunes music folder and library issue

This seems to confuse me....
My iTunes library says i have around 38GB of music but when i go to the destination folder for iTunes music it says i have 88GB of music. Hu?
does this make any sense to any of you?

    You probably have some songs that aren't currently in itunes.

    here's my sugestion.
    Delete all the files from itunes.
    Make sure that you don't send them to your recycling box.
    Move them to a temporary folder
    Go to Edit>Preferences>Advanced>General
    Double check that your folder is the one that you think it is and that you have
    Also make sure that Keep iTunes Music folder organized and Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library are both checked
    Then drag them all into itunes.
    itunes will then copy them all into the folder that you wan them to be in.
    Then you can delete them from the temporary folder.

    On a Mac got to iTunes:Advanced>Consolidate Library

    This moves all music from your puter to the specified iTunes Music folder, and adds them to the Library.
    It is possible to have music in the iTunes music folder without having it in the library.
