Help!
Every time I open iTunes (the new version.... i wish it hadn't been installed!) it starts 'determining Gapless Playback List' and before it gets anywhere it freezes. I have to restart my computer. It's rendered my iTunes useless.
Suggestions, please!

Re: iTunes freezes my computer every time I open it
Sun, December 24, 2006 - 5:22 PMWhat I mean by "Plug-ins" is did you download a visualizer for iTunes or did you download anyother application to inhance iTunes? if so mabey they are causing the iTunes problem. They will be in home folder>iTunes>iTunes plug-ins folder, delete the plug-ins and try to open iTunes again. -

Re: iTunes freezes my computer every time I open it
Fri, December 29, 2006 - 8:16 AMHave you tried going to your control panel and repairing itunes? It might work. Could just be a glitch easily fixed with the repair button. Or not. Good luck! PD

Re: iTunes freezes my computer every time I open it
Tue, March 30, 2010 - 7:59 PMI don't recommend deleting or digging into anything you don't understand, might cause more problems. Book a reservation and take it to the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store if you can. They have experts there that will take care of problems like these for free. If that's not possible let me know.

Re: iTunes freezes my computer every time I open it
Thu, August 19, 2010 - 9:57 AMThe same happens to me and I'm running a Mac Pro with dual 3 Ghtz quad cores and OSX 10.6.4. But for me iTunes locks up my entire computer making me hard shutdown with the power button. It even does this while just scrolling. -

Re: iTunes freezes my computer every time I open it
Sat, August 28, 2010 - 2:59 PMYou may want to just move your preferences to your desktop, then try reopening it. You probably have a corrupt .plist or something. -

Re: iTunes freezes my computer every time I open it
Sun, January 2, 2011 - 8:57 AMI figured out why it was locking up my entire computer even if I just scrolled and was not even playing music. The library file and all music is stored on an external USB-2 drive. iTunes does not like that at all. I just moved the music I listen to the most to the internal drive and changed the library file. -

Re: iTunes freezes my computer every time I open it

Re: iTunes freezes my computer every time I open it
Sat, December 25, 2010 - 8:31 PMI had this same issue and here is what worked for me. I let iTunes run up until a point in which it was freezing and then used Task Manager to end the program, before it froze up my computer. Take note of which track it freezes on. I then restarted iTunes and let it run until it got close to the file upon which it froze previously at which point I hit the (x) in the window and stopped the process. I then quit iTunes and then restarted my computer. After this I started iTunes and then it ran through the gapless playback without any freezing. Not sure if it will work for you, but it did for me. Good luck.
